Do it yourself?

I was curious as to who did what to their bikes when it comes to maintenance. I'll change oil and filters but not much more than that. I'd love to get an old beater bike and tear it down so I could learn some more about the internal workings.

Who here does all their own work?

I don't like anyone touching my bike but me. I had that warranty work so had no choice there but otherwise, oil, brakes, tires, valves...whatever needs done I do it and keep a record. 48K miles in two years.

I guess my problem is that I know virtually nothing about the inside of a motor... if I did, I might be more willing to crack it open. As it is now, I'm scared to death I'm gonna break it and not realize it.

Until it is too late, anyway...

Most of it is pretty simple. I replaced the stator in the 1100. I found it really easy and I'd never done one. Google most anything and you can find how to's and pics.

Mine went out a couple months ago at 45K miles. They should last longer than that.

I guess they aren't much different than an alternator on our cars in that they do wear out.
