yes Dawn, exactly what Gene said. chances are that it is stripped out just enough so that you can't quite tighten it, but can a little. that is common with those clamps.

Ok, so I went and bought a new clamp...got the old one off, but I can not get the new one on. It's so damn frustrating you guys. Do you think it's necessary to take the whole cover off, put both clamps on, put the cover back on, and get it lined up with clips? I don't know...I think I'll ask my neighbor to help me, he's always out futzing around with his trucks/boat etc.

No Dawn, just stick the smaller end of the clamp between the shield and the pipe. Then wrap it and stick it in the screw in and start turning. Sometime before it gets to tight shove it up over the clip and finish tightening it. I hope you can understand what I am saying.

it can be tough to get the clamp to slide through the clips while the heat shield is on the bike, but it is definitely doable. good luck Dawn.
